A calamity is an abnormal event caused by an act of violence or a natural Calamity.
It refers to an exceptional situation that is highly unusual in the country you are visiting.

The time of year when this occurs also plays an important role, for example:

Example 1: In northern Europe, such as in northern Finland, it can be very cold in the winter.

Extreme cold is not a natural Calamity and therefore not a calamity.

Example 2: A river cruise may sometimes be canceled due to water levels that are too high or too low.

High or low water levels are not natural Calamities and therefore not calamities.

“Molest” is a term used to describe situations such as armed conflict, civil war, or insurrection. It also refers to domestic unrest, riots, or mutiny.

You are covered by the Calamity Fund if you book a trip with a travel agency that is a member.
On the “Affiliated travel companies” page, you can check whether your travel agency is a member.
For this coverage, you pay €2.50 per booking, for up to 9 people per booking.

The guarantee scheme applies to all travel contracts that the traveler enters into for package tours with a participating travel agency.

The travel agency operates under the (ANVR) travel terms and conditions.

This therefore applies to package tours and trips using personal transportation, as well as trips involving land or water transportation that include accommodation.

Stand-alone bus tours without accommodation are also covered by the scheme.

If your trip is modified, the Calamity Fund will reimburse the additional costs incurred as a result of the modification.

If you have to cut your trip short, the Calamity Fund will reimburse the additional costs of your return trip to the Netherlands.

You will also receive compensation for the days of your trip that you were unable to use. All of this is handled through your travel agency.

Our guarantee applies only to package tours booked through a travel agency affiliated with the Calamity Fund.

If you book only a single flight ticket, this is not covered by our guarantee. Airlines are not affiliated with us.

If you book through a participant, individual flight tickets fall under Article 3, Paragraph 3, Subparagraph a of the guarantee scheme. These are excluded from our guarantee scheme.

A “negative travel advice” is a term that is often used but has no official status.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs uses the codes “travel only if necessary” (code orange) and “do not travel” (code red).

When people refer to a “negative travel advice,” they usually mean these two codes.

The Calamity Committee takes these travel advisories into account in its assessment. It also reviews information from travel companies and news reports.

The Calamity Committee operates completely independently.

These are the days on which your tour operator was unable to fulfill its obligations under the travel contract.

The tour operator was also unable to offer you an alternative itinerary.

This refers to the period during which your trip was temporarily or completely suspended.
